Not reliant on extreme ranges or unnecessarily tricky rhythms, it is a cohesive work that treats the entire ensemble as one living organism from which particular voices and colors are extracted. Moving back and forth between bombastic, biting articulations, and sweet lyricism traded mid-phrase between voices, the work steams toward a conclusion that, rather than ending with loud flourishes, ends in a majestic, reflective, and ultimately moving, whisper. A great contribution to any concert or contest program.
