Hells Canyon for concert band (grade 3, inst: pic, 2 fl, optional ob, 3 clar, bs clar, optional bsn, 2 asx, tsx, bsx, 3 tpt, hrn, 3 tbn, bar/euph, tba timp and 3 percussion, and optional string bass) is dedicated to the Clarkston High School Concert Band, Fred Dole, director, and was funded by The Commission Project of New York, Ned Corman, director. The piece features exciting, spirited themes and bold scoring. There is a contrasting, lyrical section featuring solo trumpet followed by a fiery ending. The title was inspired by Hells Canyon, the deepest river gorge on earth.
