A dynamic beginning with the chorus as the intro "let them say what they want about me", the verse begins with one solo voice with cluster harmonies crowding around the melody like a sheperd watching over its sheep. The harmony reflects the sentiment of people feeling alone , misunderstood, different. A homage is told in the words "let them say what they want about me, cuz I grew wise and figured out, Id rather be on the outside" the B section is an OM like prayer with high soprano lines crying out above a mantra " to live a life thats true to who I am and what I believe as long as no harm is done to no one, Ill make my way" A wonderful complex arrangement with a profound message for people of all ages to sing. It can be a little complicated in the tight harmonies but worth the effort of rehearsing. "On The Outside' is a concert work that will bring the house down and crack the ice for indebt discussions about bullying and feeling different than the crowd, which many of our young people experience in their evolution.
