Cantate Domino was composed for SATB chorus and two oboes, two Trumpets in C, Timpani, two violins, viola, cello and bass. Although there is no date given for the composition, the first date listed for a performance of this work (in a long list of performance dates included in the set of parts is given as 1834. The text is taken from Psalm 95, verses two and four, and is translated into English as follows: Sing to the Lord and bless his name. Because the Lord is great he should be praised; he is feared above all Gods.
