The "lawyers" that Peachum refers to so often and so venomously in this play are probably not attorneys but law-makers, or politicians, and corrupt ones at that: The Beggar's Opera was a highly satirical attack on Sir Robert Walpole and his government.
I couldn't get a sound on Sibelius for a guiro, but it needs to be the loudest, most offensive scraper you can lay your hands on! The second half of this piece can be a dance, stage business, or what you will.
