Back Against The Wall - Cage the Elephant
Play the two lowest bass notes and the fourth string of
the chord in the verse as shown in the intro
chords: G# 466544
F# 244322
F#(9) x9-11-11-11-9 (A shape, ninth fret.)
B(7) 799877 (E shape, seventh fret)
B x24442
C# x46664
|---------|
[Intro]
G# F# F(9)# C# B
e|-------------------------|
B|-------------11----6---4-|
G|--5------3---------------|
D|-------------11----6---4-|
A|--6------4---9-----4---2-|
E|--4------2---------------| X4 (listen to song for rhythm)
for the second two bars of the intro a second guitar plays this
play it to this beat 1--2--3--4
G#
e|---------|
B|-----4---|
G|----5----|
D|---6-----|
A|--6------|
E|---------| X2
Then during the first bar of the verse about a fourth of a bar before the
singer sings the second guitar plays this one time and make it sound sort
of dramatic as a simple downstroke like 1-2-3-4 but half the speed of the
other part.(if its confusing play the song and listen you'll hear it)
G#
e|---------|
B|--4------|
G|--5------|
D|--6------|
A|--6------|
E|---------| X1
[Verse 1]
(play the chords like you did in the intro)
(for best effect use slight delay if electric)
G# F#
Tonight I'll have a look
F#(9) C# B7 G#
And try to find my face again
F# F#(9)
Buried beneath this house`
C# B7 G#
My spirit screams and dies again
F# F#(9)
Out back a monster wears
C# B7 G#
A cloak of Persian leather
F# F#(9)
Behind the TV screen
C# B7 G#
I've fallen to my knees
[Chorus]
(All chords in the post chorus and chorus are down strokes, with a quick up
in between.)
(also if you have trouble following the beat just use down
strokes till you get use to it enough to get the rest.)
G#
I said you've got me where you want me again!
B(7) C#
And--I can't turn away
G# F# C#
I'm hanging by a thread and I'm feeling like a fool
G# B(7) C#
I'm stuck here in between the shadows of my yesterday
G#
I want to- get away
F# C#
I need to- get away
[Verse 2]
G# F#
Blanket of silence
F#(9) C# B7 G#
makes me want to sink my teeth in deep
F#
Burn all the evidence
F#(9) C# B7 G#
of fabricated disbelief
F# F#(9) C# B7 G#
Pull back the curtains took a look into your eyes
F# F#(9) C# B7 G#
My tongue has now become a platform for your lies
[Chorus 2]
G#
I said you've got me where you want me again!
B(7) C#
And--I can't turn away
G# F# C#
I'm hanging by a thread and Im feeling like a fool
G# B(7) C#
I'm stuck here in between the shadows of my yesterday
G#
I want to- get away
F# C#
I need to- get away
[Post-Chorus 1]
G# F#
Now-- you know
B7 C# G#
Yeah, you got my back against the wall
F# B7 C# G#
Oh gosh, I aint got no other place to hide
F# B7 C#
chained down, like a sitting duck
G#
Just waiting for the fall
F# B7 C# G#
You know, yeah you got my back against the wall
[Verse 3]
G# F#
Deep in the jungle
F#(9) C# B7 G#
Camouflaged by all the fallen leaves
F#
A hand holds up the sky
F#(9) C# B7 G#
While shamefully I make my plea
F#
The alters callin'
F#(9) C# B7 G#
But my legs won't seem to stand
F#
Guess I'm a coward
F#(9) C# B7 G#
Scared to face the man I am
[Chorus 3]
G#
I said you've got me where you want me again!
B(7) C#
And--I can't turn away
G# F# C#
I'm hanging by a thread and Im feeling like a fool
G# B(7) C#
I'm stuck here in between the shadows of my yesterday
G#
I want to- get away
F# C#
I need to- get away
[Post-Chorus 2]
G# F#
Now-- you know
B7 C# G#
Yeah, you got my back against the wall
F# B7 C# G#
Oh gosh, I aint got no other place to hide
F# B7 C#
chained down, like a sitting duck
G#
Just waiting for the fall
F# B7 C# G#
You know, yeah you got my back against the wall
[Riff 1]
(4 bars)
(just a guess it goes like this):
e|--------------------------|
B|--------------------------|
G|--------------------------|
D|-----------6666--8888-----|
A|--6666666-----------------| X2
E|--------------------------|
[Solo 1]
(I don't know what it is)
(guessing in the g scale)
this is a rough improvisation but it sounds alright if you tweak it hey its better than
nothing!
(use this as sort of a outline for what notes are in it or maybe
you should try a pentatonic on the 6th or 4th frets i don't know)
my best advise is listen to the song and improve it, best you can using
these notes and you'll be set
e|--------------------------------------------|
B|--------------------------------------------|
G|--------------------66b8-6h86h86h8(v)hold---|
D|-----------6b6b--88b------------------------|
A|--6b6p6b6p----------------------------------|
E|--------------------------------------------|
e|--------------------------------------------|
B|--------------------------------------------|
G|--------------------------------------------|
D|-----------6b6b--88----44b6-4h64h64h6(v)hold|
A|--66666666----------------------------------|
E|--------------------------------------------|
e|--------------------------------------------|
B|--------------------------------------------|
G|--------------------8(v)-6(v)---------------|
D|-----------8(v)-6(v)------------------------|
A|--66666666----------------------------------|
E|--------------------------------------------|
B|--------------------------------------------|
G|--------------------4(v)-6(v)---------------|
D|-----------4(v)-6(v)------------------------|
A|--66666666----------------------------------|
E|--------------------------------------------|
[Outro 1]
G# F#
Now-- you know
B7 C# G#
Yeah, you got my back against the wall
F# B7 C# G#
Oh gosh, I aint got no other place to hide
F# B7 C#
chained down, like a sitting duck-
G#
Just waiting for the fall
F# B7 C# G#
You know, yeah you got my back against the wall.....
End however you want to i think G# works fine.
It's a fun song and all the other tabs didn't help out so i hope this one
did!

nice tab.sounds good. The intro sounds right but i thought i'd provide another way to play it.I was observing an acoustic performance of them and i figured out the way they play it:
e|---------------------------|
B|-------------11------------|
G|--5------3---------10----8-|
D|-------------11------------|
A|--6------4---9-----11----9-|
E|--4------2---------9-----7-|
There you have it.Good job :)
